  • CARTER SMITH, mid to late 30s, Male. Teacher. A former golden boy, but one of those rare smart and sensitive ones. Now he’s a great teacher: charming, engaging, goofy.
  • SHELBY HOLCOMB, 18+ to play 16, Female. student. Her brain works faster than her mouth, but her mouth works pretty dang fast. People have always underestimated her.
  • BETH POWELL, 18+ to play 17, Female. Student. Nervous and ambitious and enthusiastic.
  • NELL SHAW, 18+ to play 16, Female. Student. From Atlanta. Grounded and sincere.
  • IVY WATKINS, 18+ to play 17, Female. Student. Fiercely loyal and always well-intentioned.

Storyline: A cross between Spring Awakening and Midsommar, The Turning is a new folk musical thriller about two best friends in search of healing who go to a California desert-based wellness retreat, which ultimately reveals itself to be something else entirely.

The folk/Americana score evokes the sonic sounds of Kacey Musgraves, Noah Kahan, Mumford and Sons, Brandi Carlile, Alison Krauss, and Phoebe Bridgers.

This call is for SINGERS. If you are primarily a DANCER, please attend one of the dance calls the next day, 4/7.

Audition Requirements

3 minutes total – strict time limit.

Please prepare a brief selection of a pop or musical theater pop song in the style of the show (Folk, Americana, Bluegrass). Similar pop artists include Noah Kahan, Mumford and Sons, Brandi Carlile, Alison Krauss and Phoebe Bridgers.

Please bring your book in case we would like to hear a second song. If you don’t have a book, that is totally fine. You may bring a second song if you’d like but you may not be asked to sing it.

Accompanist will be provided. We will NOT accept a cappella auditions or karaoke tracks.

Seeking

[ENSEMBLE] (18-60s age range, all ethnicities, ages, and vocal parts) The ensemble defines the world and portrays a range of characters throughout the musical. Every ensemble track will be featured in some way. Most will understudy principal roles. All must be strong pop singers. Looking for ensemble members that both move well and some that are strong dancers

Audition Requirements

Dancers: Dancers should come warmed up and dressed to dance. Sneakers/shoes are appropriate, knee pads if needed. Dancers should be prepared to learn choreography in the style of the show. Please bring your headshot and resume stapled together.

Singers: Singers should prepare a 32-bar selection of a pop or musical theater pop song in the style of the show (Folk, Americana, Bluegrass). Similar pop artists include Noah Kahn, Mumford and Sons, Brandi Carlile, Alison Krauss and Phoebe Bridgers.

Accompanist will be provided. We will NOT accept karaoke tracks.

MUST bring a hard copy of a picture and resume or bio, stapled together.
